Question:

What to hook up my speakers to?

I was looking around in my attic and I found a 5.1 speaker system my friend had put up before moving. The only problem is, the way you connect the speakers to an amplifier is by loose black/red wires with the stripped end, instead of a plug type of connection. I was wondering where I can buy that specific kind of amplifier that takes the speakers & subwoofer as a wire, instead of a plug (if that makes sense...)

For example, I don't need this kind with all the "plug" inputs:http://www.audioholics.com/audioholics/images/avr2105rear_lg1.jpg

  1. The type of connector is not determinitive.  The impedance  and max power input of the speakers is.  I presume that 5.1 is the speaker impedance.  If so, then you need to match it to an amplifier with a 5.1 ohm output or accommodate it in some other way such as with an impedance transformer or an attenuator to do the matching.
