  1. It depends if you plan on boating on a river or a lake for one. We owned a Searay boat make and they are one of the best, We boated on a river, our boat was a 18.5 foot with an open bow. It was to small for a river, we would hit the "wakes" from the other bigger boats and get bounced around alot. I would recommend at least a 23 footer, they are heavier, sturdier, and take the "wakes" very well. When they are that big they usually have a "cuddy" cabin for privacy also. Remember when you make a boat purchase, there is insurance, storing in the winter months, and launching fees and slip fees if you plan on having it in a marina. There is an old saying, the two best days of owning a boat are the day it is delivered and the day you sell it. They are not cheap to maintain either, but are so enjoyable all summer long. I sold mine after 4 years and still made a good profit, but miss it dearly. Good luck and happy boating

  2. I recommend that you find some boat owners and make friends with them and go out on the water with them. It is the best way to learn the ins and outs of boat ownership without actually owning the boat. After a few trips you will have most of your questions answered and you will know if you are cut out to be boat people or not. Boats are a big responsibility and  represent a lot of upkeep and expense. Some people find it much easier to go with friends and help pay for the trip.

  3. Get a book that lists various boats etc. In a book store or library adn check consumer ratings on them.
