  1. Well first you need to focus on your defensive ability as PG. Most coaches love a PG who is unselfish and also will be able to make that 15 foot jump. I tell all my players that what i want out of my high school PG

    1. You are the basketball court Coach

    2. You have to be able to Defend

    3. Make everyone around you BETTER

    4. Consistently make your mid-range jump shot

    5. Do what the coach tell you to do!

  2. respect others and never, NEVER be cocky ur teammtes will talk **** behind ur bak and once u find that out ur team will collapse

  3. What up Ty L,

Here are some tips i have for you from playing high school basketball:

    (1)  Know the offense- As a point guard- it's important for you to be in control of your team and really be able to control the offense.  You'll find that the better you know the offense the more that will help you in the long run- especially since Freshmen, JV, and Varsity usually run the same system- so as you progress through the years- the more familiar you are with the plays and where the ball should be- the better.

    (2)  Work hard- A point guard is often looked at as the "quarterback" of the team so when running laps, etc. just work hard, try not to complain and learn when the coach criticizes you.

    (3)  Work on the intangibles:  i got a lot of playing time because of my defensive intensity- and i prided myself in being a defensive stopper (even though i was one of the smallest guys on my team- i was also one of the toughest when it came to taking charges) etc.  Be an encouragement to your teammates- i always gave my teammates pats on the back when they missed free throws etc. or reminding my teammates to box out etc.

    (4)  Value the assist more than the score- as a point guard- an assist is worth as much to you as a basket.  i've seen a lot of point guards run alot of isolation and focus on how many points they have.  i played both the PG and the SG and when i played point- i focused more on keeping the number of turnovers i had to zero and picking up assists and steals- more than points.  Within the flow of the offense you'll get your shots.

    Hope that helps,

    Nickster

  4. Work harder than the next person

    Don't miss practice

    Play team ball

Don't talk back to the coach

    Don't fight with teammates

Your teammates are your brothers and you must remember that.

And the biggest rule I would say is....Even though basketball is a team sport, when playing against any team, make the player covering you work his butt off. Like I tell my players... "Bust his A$$!!"
