I want a laptop but I don't know what makes a good laptop good and a bad laptop bad. Any help on what to look for? I want to pay maybe maximum £450.

  1. Make sure you have lots of ram/storage space.

  2. go on dell.co.uk and there cheep and there good laptops . look for intel cor 2 duo at least 2.00ghz and 2gb ram 80-120gb hd i will come with vista but it will run better with xp :¬)

  3. i would look for at least 2gb's of ram and about 160gb-250gb of hard drive. You sould work out how many USB ports you will need most new laptops come with 3-4 USB ports but if a laptop that you want to buy does not you can buy a USB hub. i would recomend an acer 5920g they are £400 and are really quick lots of storage space 250gs and 3g 's of ram and have a decent video card. They even have a subwoofer. Look the acer aspire 5920g up on google to see all of the specs.

  4. Since it's going to come with Vista, at least 4GB or RAM and at least a 2GHz CPU.  If you're into gaming, at least an nVidia 8600 video processor.  (8800 is better, 9800 is as good as it gets.)  At least 200GB of hard drive - 2 hard drive bays, if you think you'll need more.

Anything except HP or Compaq - I think the quality control department left when the CEO did.  (I've bought a couple of Gateways recently - I'm impressed.)

  5. well if you call lik edell you can find help.. but i was in costco and they have gr8 helpers and lkots of computer to chosse from.. u =m around like 345$

  6. Well your first question would be. What will I be doing with the laptop? If it involves lots of graphic design, art or music. Buy a mac. If you need to do a lot of different other stuff (play games, write reports, do research) buy a PC.

Once you have answered that question you want to find out how much power you will need. When buying a Mac laptop you will want something towards the new side if you are doing a lot of graphic design and other art things. They dont have much towards customization so what you find on there site is what you are limited to.

If you want to buy a PC, again you need to find out your main purpose. For gaming I would get something with a good processor, decent ram and a good graphics card. For everything else I would suggest getting something on the cheaper side. Like a decent processor, a bit of ram, and a decent video card.

Also check out Dell's, HP's and other companies to see what you can put together at the cheapest price, also keep an eye out for offers on free upgrades and lower prices.

I bought a top of the line, quad core proccessor, Nvidia Geforce 9600 Video card, 4gb of ram computer for $1000 from HP during one of there offers.

    Good Luck!

  7. Look for the Apple logo.

You can get a used or refurbished mac within that price range.

  8. It depends on what you use it for.  If you use it for games, then you better buy a faster CPU.  The Most decent computer would be a Duo 2 Core CPU, 3/4 gbs of memory and 256mb or more memory in Video Card and a blue-ray or a DVD-ROM.
