What are some quit list items to check when looking at a used car. Are there any tell tale signs of more serious problems that can be easily assed with a little poking and proding? what are some of those things?

thanks...

  1. There are sooooo many problems that can be hidden, you have no idea.  You need to get a carfax report first of all and go to a reputable dealer like Vern Eide

  2. You can look for leaks under the car and strange noises when you drive, but there are many other problems that don't have obvious indicators. It's ALWAYS best to get a mechanic to look over any used car you might buy. It'll only cost you about $50-$100 and it can save you from making a multi-thousand dollar mistake.

If you get a mechanic's report that indicates fixable problems, you can use the report to negotiate for a lower price.

Do not take the word of the seller about a car's condition. It's not that all sellers are dishonest (although many are), it's that the seller might not be aware of all the problems.

Also get a CarFax report to check the vehicle's history.

    Good luck.

  3. If you want to find some really detailed answers I've written a 3 part article series on this....

Its titled "what to look for when buying a $1000 dollar auto" but it can work for any used vehicle....

to much to post in one answer so check the source link...

  4. My suggestion will be to get a VIN report, that should tell you if there are any mayor issues with the vehicle. When driving the vehicle make sure there are no delay starts, no strainge sounds or anything like that

  5. Just go to Edmunds.com and you will find all the information you need and what the dealerships don't want you to know.
