Im 14 years old, and on August the 9th, I'll be travelling from the UK to Atlanta, Georgia, USA by myself. I'm not sure what to pack. My mum says not to bring too many clothes because i'll probably buy loads in america.

How many trousers, shorts, 3 quarter lengths etc do you think i should take?

How many tops, jackets, cardigans etc do you think i should take?

How much of anything else do you think i should take, eg. jewellery, makeup, pyjammas etc.?

And also, when do you think I should start packing?

Thanks!

  1. If your going to Atlanta i'd bring a gun, some pepper spray etc...

  2. You're going to Atlanta? Sweet, that's where I live. That will make it easier for me to answer your question.

So, in Georgia, we tend to get unexpected rain storms. In fact, there is one right now. Make sure you have something to wear in the event that it does.

Also, it gets a hot here, too, since we are down south. I was actually just in the UK last month, so I can say that it is a definite change in weather. Bring plenty of shorts, I'd say about 4 or 5 pairs, and bring about 7 tops. True, you will probably buy a bunch of stuff here, so make sure that you still have a light suitcase.

I don't know about UK customs all that much, but here we usually have 1 or two pairs of pajamas that we wear over and over again. And as for jewelry, I never see that many people wearing more than earings or a small necklace. You won't need much unless you are going to a high-class place.

Take one jacket, and a little make-up. remember that you'll buy stuff here, too. I actually had to look up these next items because we don't generally use them in American English.

definitely take some 3 quarter lengths. That's what a lot of people wear here. I'm not sure if I looked up the right cardigan, but bring one or two of those along.

Last but not least, make sure to bring clothes that you wouldn't mind leaving behind. Remember that there is a weight limit for your suitcase, in case you do have to remove a few items.

I hope you have a wonderful time in Atlanta.

  3. 24 Days worth of clothes, Toiletry's like Deodorant, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, shaving cream, a razor.

Also bring a camera, and plenty of food and money

  4. a pistol

  5. I would pack at least a 2 week supply of clothes, maybe a one real dressy outfit,  Deodorant  especially, but you are british so I don't think you are like the smelly french

  6. Hello there. I'm from Atlanta, it seems your mom is right, don't bring a ton of clothes because you'll buy a lot of them here, the dollar is to weak in comparisson to the pound, I just came from Orlando and in every shop there was a lot of Brits buying everything.

In Atlanta and it's suburbs it's hot, around 90's with a high humidity, which makes even worst, it feels hotter.

I would begin packing now, If coming to the ATL simply to visit and sightseeing all you really neeed are shorts shirts, undies, sochs and a pair of tennis shoes, no jackets, no sweatshirt, I don't know what cardigan is, but I don't think you will need that either.

Just pack your items in big suitcases, because there's plenty of stuff to buy here and for you it's all half price.

Make sure to visit the ATL Aquarium, Lennox Mall, the Cnn Center, World of Coke, go to a Braves Game(Baiseball), and visit the Mall of Ga 30 miles northeast of Atlanta.

    Welcome to Atlanta

  7. it is going to be hot but it might rain

you can buy essentials here it will be cheaper as the dollar is weaker just buy them at a pharmacy somewhere

    Enjoy!

  8. It is Africa-hot in Atlanta this time of year, so pack accordingly. Why don't you contact your hosts and find out what activities are planned? Then you can make better choices. Depending on where you stay, you may have access to laundry facilities, so keep that in mind.

Create a travel wardrobe based on two basic colors with a third accent color (black and white with red, white and charcoal with red, navy and cream with green, etc). That way you can mix and match and get the most from fewer pieces.

Take one light jacket or sweater. There is no need for more unless you are planning additional travels to other parts of the country (way north).

Make a chart of days and plan out each day based on activities. Then you can narrow your choices. But have a conversation with your host about this.

You start packing when it bests suits you to start packing. There is no formula. But you can start a packing list to work from immediately so you don't forget anything.

  9. I would suggest bringing many light clothes, its very hot in most US states this time of year, and I hear that Atlanta is very humid as well.  Probably about 2 weeks worth of clothing is good - mostly shorts/capri's and/or skirts and maybe 3-4 pair of pants.    As for shirts, bring mostly short sleeve or tank tops and maybe 4 long sleeve shirts and 1 light jacket and perhaps 1 sweat shirt. And maybe 3 pjs.

As far as makeup and jewelry go, you may not want to bring too much of that - with makeup, unless your going to check it in at the airport, you may want to bring very little - airports here are kind of picky about cosmetics/perfumehygienene products being placed in thcarry-onon luggage.   Jewelry you want to be careful with unless its junk, you wouldn't want to risk any expensive jewelry getting stolen while going through the checkin in the airport or if your luggage gets lost.
