Hey, I'm moving to LA in less then 2 months.

I was wondering, what should I pack? I'm immigrating there, its not a trip so I need to have everything. Someone know a good packing list for moving?

  1. Make the personal stuff that can't be replaced a priority.  As for clothes, use the weight allowance for your favorite things or anything expensive--like formal clothes if you're bringing any, or shoes that you like.

For every day clothes--if it goes below 60 in the daytime in winter we all think it's freezing (lol).  Even me, and I'm from NY and know better.  But that does happen.   Once in a while winter nights go below freezing but again, that is very unusual.  It does rain in the winter (sometimes heavy rain) but just buy an umbrella once you're here.  I wouldn't bother bringing an umbrella on a plane.

In the summer it gets very hot, over 100 sometimes, close to 100 often, so you'll need mostly hot weather clothes.

If you have anyone here who'd hang onto things for you you could ship stuff ahead of time.

You definitely don't need the coat you used in Switzerland...:)  I brought a heavy, lined suede jacket and gloves with me from NY ten years ago.  I wear the jacket maybe a few times each year and only use the gloves when I go back to New York.

  2. bulletproof vest or flak jacket. guns. ammo.

    good luck.

  3. If you're moving there... and you need everything... wouldn't you just pack everything you own?

if not.. all you need is duct tape and a toothbrush and you'll be fine.
