I am in a 10th grade class, and we have to bring something in to reverse engineer. Nothing like software or anything like that. Like a stereo or a camera. Any ideas. And what should i do to reverse engineer it?

  1. Well, you want something cheap that you can break and not care about it if you can't put it back together. So, I'd go to a junk, used, or second hand shop and buy something less than $20 bucks.

Old typewriters are mechanical and particularly fun to take apart.

Old radios, old phones (with chords - trust me, they used to have those), old engine parts, counter-top appliances like a hand held mixer, old computers or any computer periphery device like a joystick or mouse.

Think of what you love, be it science, music, cars, video games, etc - maybe ever something you'd consider doing for a career - and use this as a chance to delve into that thing deeper by choosing something related.

  2. Maybe an old tape recorder. You'll find the mechanical parts easier to understand than the circuitry of something as complex as a cell phone.

  3. How about an old cell phone?

  4. to "reverse engineer" is to have something and you dont know how it works, and you take it to bits, to find out and understand how it works, so you can by yourself, then design one yourself.
