Question:

What to say in court to mitigate a speeding ticket? ?

I got a speeding ticket in the state of Illinois (Schaumburg) about 2-3 months back and have court in two days. What I want to do is get traffic safety school to get the ticket off my record or have the ticket removed all together and be on probation for a while (which I'm told I can do).

I want to know what it is I have to say, how I act, and things like that to get the best out of this situation. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Also if it makes a difference I am 16 years of age.

The details on the ticket are going less than 15 over, light traffic, and with clear conditions. However the cop also put I was driving an 89 Dodge when I was actually in an 03 Dodge which was very odd to me considering the car is in nearly mint condition and looks nothing like an 89.

Much thanks in advance

P.S

If anyone needs any more details request it and I'll post them in the additional details section.

  1. You need to say just what you said in your question: that you would like an opportunity to get it removed or not placed on your record.  The juvenile courts are already motivated to not put your illegal action on record, so if you dress nice, act nice, and act like you have sense then you will be fine and be a candidate for a driving school to get it off your record if you do not get any more offenses for a year.

The car difference will not get you off on technicality.  Place of offense, difference of person in vehicle, meaning name totally wrong, etc. will, but not car year.

You will be OK!  Just slow down.

  2. Your best bet is to just act responsible. Don't act like you don't have a care in the world. Dress nicely obviously and point out to the judge the cop you were driving an 03 dodge. Hopefully this is your first ticket. If it is it will make it easier to get what you want.
