i agree with sending the drink over first. it is less aggressive and more intriguing. however, i would have the bartender bring her another of whatever she is having to be sure you pick something that she likes or send over something sweet and let her know that you thought that she looked sweet or a few minutes into the conversation you start after sending it let her know that the sweet drink compliments her personality.

I think its best to just buy a girl a drink and not say anything. Don't act desperate, if she is interested in you, she will come over and thank you and hope you buy her another one. Just kind of smile is she accepts the drink, but don't act too enthusiastic about it. Just tell the bartender that you would like to buy such and such a drink. Don't just throw the drink in front of the girl - it makes a girl feel like a piece of meat.

Take that coming from a very pretty girl who has been offered many drinks - not to be conceited - but its true. If someone bought me a drink when I didn't have a boyfriend, I preferred it when they asked if I wanted it. If I thought they were attractive or seemed cute, I would take the drink and talk to them when I got up to go to the bathroom or if I went outside to use the phone or something. I would say thank you, that was sweet and the conversations starts like that.
