We are going to a cook out this weekend and I am calling on my Answer friends to help me out.

I am all out of ideas on what to take. We are going to have the usual hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato salad. I would like to have any suggestions that might go good with the things mentioned above.

I appreciate any help anyone can give me---Thanks A Lot!!!

  1. Pasta salad is a good choice or maybe make some three cheese maccaroni and cheese. Its pretty good. You can also make a veggie tray with ranch dipping sauce.

  2. a fruit salad would go very fast I would think.  I love fruit.

  3. A veggie tray with a couple different dips,

    Homemade Mac & Cheese

    Mixed fruit bowl

    Corn on the Cob

    Strawberry shortcake cupcakes

Large garden salad with a couple different dressings to choose from

  4. Chips, drinks, salad don't  forget cheese for the burgers, ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce relish,hmmm.... fruit salad?! Have fun!!

  5. I like to make Pesto Pasta Salad.  It is fairly easy and so good.

    Need:

    Penne Pasta

    Sundried Tomatoes

    Large bunch Spinach

    Large bunch Fresh Basil

    Garlic

    1 lemon

    Parmesan Cheese

    Pine nuts (optional)

    Olive oil

    Grape Tomatoes, halved

Grilled chicken cut into chunks (optional)

    Cook box of pasta.

In a food processor or blender, put 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 tablespoon pine nuts, 1/2 the spinach, 1/2 the basil, juice of 1 lemon and 2-3 cloves of garlic (whole or chopped up).  Blend until smooth.  Add in the rest of the spinach and the rest of the basil.  Add 1 tsp. garlic salt and some pepper.  Add in 1/4 cup parmesan cheese.

    Blend blend blend.

Add a touch of water if you need it to be looser.

Toss pasta with pesto, sundried tomatoes, halved grape tomatoes, chicken.  Top again with more parmesan cheese.

It holds up well; just keep it in a cooler with a sealed lid.

  6. BBQ -perfect for a cookout! ;-)

  7. Bring the "fixin's". Mustard, ketsup, onion, cheese, chilli for the dogs and buns. It's cheep and easy, no cooking required.

  8. Make up a big condiment tray!  Several types of pickles, some unusual olives in both black and green...Don't forget the little green onions, radishes, any green thing that can go on a tray!

  9. Some chile beans or baked beans  some corn on the cob and don't forget the grill and some great entertainment  good luck!

  10. You can't forget watermelon.

  11. Hot chocolate for the night.  And do not forget the fire for the cold!

  12. Buns & toppings.

  13. A family favorite of ours:

    FRUIT AMBROSIA

    2 c. heavy whipping cream

    1/2 c. sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla extract

    1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 large can mandarin oranges, drained

2 large cans fruit cocktail, drained

    1/2 c. coconut

    5-6 c. miniature marshmellows

Beat cream, sugar & extracts to very stiff peaks.  Fold in fruits & marshmellows.  Chill ..... I've made this the day ahead & it's fine:)

  14. You can bring desert and the wine!

  15. Sweet & Sour pasta

    1 pound rotini pasta

    4 carrots, shredded

    1 green bell pepper, chopped

    1 onion, diced

    1 cup distilled white vinegar

    1 cup white sugar

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

    2 cups mayonnaise

    1 teaspoon salt

    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

    DIRECTIONS

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.

In large bowl, combine pasta, carrot, green pepper and onion. In medium bowl, combine vinegar, sugar, condensed milk, mayonnaise, salt and pepper. Toss salad with dressing and chill 4 hours in refrigerator before serving.

ETA: I made this it's very runny, and it's more of a 'sweet n sour' pasta, due to the amount of vinegar in it. The original recipe called for 2 C which is what I used when it was very runny. The 2nd time I made it, I only used 1 C of vinegar & it was much more 'sticky"It's still very good tasting though! I skipped the bell pepper because I don't care for it & didn't use as much onion as the recipe called for ~

  16. sliced tomatoes mozzarella cheese or other fresh basil and balsamic vinegar on top.

snow pea and spinach salad with fav dressing on it

some type of pasta salad  not just macaroni

maybe with ham green peas or corn cucumbers  microwaved hard salami to get rid of extra grease cooked similar to  bacon with italian dressing

  17. Banana Pudding

    Jello with fruit

    Macaroni Salad

    Pasta Salad

    Mac and Cheese

    Baked Beans

    Man...I am hungry NOW

  18. Unless you know what others are bringing, taking the "normal" side dishes runs the risk of having duplicates. I take either an unusual salad (people always ask for the recipe) or an unusual dessert (from my grandmother's recipe collection)

    Thai Salad

2 packages Ramen noodles – crushed – do not use seasoning packet

    ½ cup sunflower seeds

    ½ cup slivered almonds

    ½ cup (I stick) butter/margarine

Sauté all above until golden, set aside to cool

    Chop 1 head Napa cabbage

    Chop 1 bunch green onions

    Dressing: Mix together:

    1 cup oil

    1 cup sugar

    ½ cup white vinegar

    2 tablespoons soy sauce

    1 teaspoon garlic powder

Combine all ingredients just before serving

    Apple Cake

    G’Ma Bloom

    4 cups diced apples

    2 cups sugar

    1 cup raisins

    2 tsp salt, divided

    =================

    1 cup oil

    2 eggs, beaten

    1 cup walnuts

    =================

    2 cups flour

    2 ½ cups apple juice

    2 t baking soda

    2 t cinnamon

    • Mix apples, sugar, raisins, 1 tsp salt. Let stand 1 hour

    • Add oil, eggs and walnuts.

    • Sift in flour, juice, baking soda, cinnamon and 1 tsp salt.

    • Pour into greased 13” x 9” baking dish, 350 degrees for 1 hr and 15 minutes.
