Question:

What to think about to get rid of the butterflies?

This is our first track meet tmr and just thinking about it makes me feel kinda sick... I run in 3 events..I'm confident about the 70m dash and the 400m relay..but the 200m gets me a little sick/nervous/butterfly thingys in stomach. Is there anything to help...i can just imagine what i'll feel like on the starting blocks tmr

  2. Don't try to get rid of them, they actually can help your performance.  If you feel like hurling before the meet, do it, don't try to hold it back.  you will feel much better and perform well.

    It gets easier with more time, use it to your advantage while you can.

  3. well you DO want to get rid of those feelings... they always hurt my times. but if you feel like vomiting, vomit! youll feel alot better afterwards. try to be confident in your times and get your mind ready for the race. if you dont think you can run it, youre not gonna be able to run it... take deep breaths and move around and bounce a little bit to get your blood flowing.

  4. i tried chewing gum before my event at my last meet, and i think it really puts you at ease

    i can get really nervous before big races to the point where i feel like i need to puke, but this time i chewed on gum up until about a minute before they called us to the line and i felt great

  5. when I'm nervous i like to listen to music that reminds me of a happy or comfortable memory. I stretch alot to prove to myself i'm prepared. I also try to joke with friends or just talk to them. If all else fails, just remember that your bound to beat someone. Think about how nervous that person is. You could also look at the newest, most worried person on the team. try to comfort them so you forget about yourself. you could also read or do anything to zone out and forget.

  6. Imagine that everyone in the stands---as well as everyone competing against you--is wearing nothing but Jockey underwear.

  7. having butterflies is good, it means u r ready 4 the race and it just makes u human to be nervous bout somethin. Everybody getting ready 4 that race is nervous casue this race happens one time and there is no redos. just remember how u run, remember how it feels to run and a weight may be lifted from your shoulders
