Question:

What to use for a rudder??????

I have a model submarine that i made, the only problem is i can't steer it, it goes forward and backward as fast or not fast as i want it to, but i can't seem to figure out a way to steer it. if anyone has any ideas for how to control a rudder of some sort, please tell, and preferably something cheap - Very Cheap!!! i don't have much money!!! thanks :)

  1. I was able to hack a couple tiny solenoids out of an old (early 80's) pioneer cassette deck.  3 volts is barely enough power to move 'em.

    you'd have only 'full port' or 'full starboard' control but way cheaper than servo.

    might be easier to use twin motors & vary the power to each for left/right steering.


  2. Look a any boat with a rudder make 1 install it will need another servo to power it>
