I want to practice putting and chipping in my apartment at school next year. I have a putting mat that will work, but what should I chip into?

  1. Try what I do: I use ping pong balls when practicing my chips indoors. The distance and roll may not be realistic, but it will do.

  2. Putting mats aren't bad, but to take it to the next level. get a hot pink or neon green piece of string/yarn.  If you are practicing in a 6 foot area, you'll need just over six feet of string.  Tie one end to a coffee cup, and tie the other end to a different coffee cup, and then pull them apart until the string is tight.  Take one cup and put it about a foot behind where you would be putting from, and put the other cup just behind the center of the hole (if you have a putting mat).  Placing the ball under the string, set it down so that when you address the ball, the string bisects the ball.

This can give you a great teach for not only keeping your eyes directly over the ball, but working on a solid stroke as well.  You can even lengthen this to ten or twelve feet and use 3 golf balls (one short putt, one medium putt, one longer putt).

I wouldn't recommend practicing your chipping in a dorm like room becuase it can give you a short, jabby chipping motion which is very inconsistent when you get to the course.

  3. You can go to Walmart and buy the practice balls they won't break much of anything and they are the same size as golf balls. I use them a lot for everything, they really help.

use this the OS-130 CHIPPING NET.

you can have  three different aiming points and it is usually inexpensive.. unless you are a HORRIBLE chipper then this should be fine for an apartment. :)

    hope this helps :)

  5. Lots of items on the market from a small bucket sized net, to a fold away net with targets on it.  I use a small grass like mat and a small net to practice.  Careful with real balls, you might want to get some weighted foam balls if it is a small area.

  6. try the Point3 golf balls by Dave Pelz.  They behave just like a real golf ball, but they fly one-third the distance of a normal golf ball.  Plus, they're real soft, so they're safe for indoor use.
