I have a granite sink cutout and want to use it as a cutting board. What would be a good backing so it does not scratch the counter top which is not granite.

  1. Felt pads. Hobby and craft stores have them. When they get dirty just peel them off and put new ones on. They come with adhesive already on one side and are cheap. BUT, granite is a VERY poor cutting board. Not at all good for knife edges and will get scratched very easily. Hard  to sanitize. Better a decoration of some type. A traditional board or plastic is the ticket.

  2. Get some adhesive  rubber feet at the hardware store

  3. Stainless steel. Check with your local sheetmetal shop.  It is sanitary and durable.

  4. How interesting.  I just pulled out this package of Soft Touch by Waxman (www.waxmancpg,com).  I have the Corian cutout and used these on the bottom like you're talking about.  They're little clear raised bumpers.  The product # on my package is 2101.  Works well since they're plastic, so they don't absorb any water from the counter top.

Once you have them, it's amazing all the other uses you'll find for them!

  5. Perhaps you could buy sheet cork and glue it to the bottom?

  6.      This is not going to be good. The knives are going to pay for this, the granite is to hard for them. The granite itself is unknown to me if it's unsafe for this purpose as to absorption for the blood for meats etc. e-coli. You may want to check for this.

If everything is O.K. then I'd go to Hobby Lobby or Micheals and get a soft cork that I could put down and take off when I wanted to use it.
