Question:

What to use to fill a hole in cement floor that has pipes?

In my master bathroom behind my tub there's a hole in the ground and the pipes from the tub go into that hole. So I'm wondering how I could fill the hole without covering the pipes just in case something goes wrong with the tub and I would need to repair the pipes. Thanks!

  1. as stated the hole is to service the tub but you could fill it with sand if it bothers you, that would be easy enough to get back out.

  2. You will want to fill it with something bugs and other pests can't get through. If it is a small hole, I would fill it with steel wool.

  3. The hole is to allow the trap on the tub to be below the floor. This is normal, and does not need to be changed. If you still want to do something with it, I would suggest you use a product like concrete floor leveler. Mix up a watery batch and pour a thin, (1/2" or less) layer, in the hole. Because it will be watery it will level its self. This will be easy to break up if it every becomes necessary.

  4. There would be no need to fill the plumbing hole under your tub. As far as bugs, when building a house, it should have been pretreated against bugs. If it is copper water lines, without a protective plastic wrapper concrete will eat holes in the copper. The p-trap under the tub could have problems and be a need to access it. Just close the walls and it will be sealed and nothing will enter that way.

If you must fill the hole just use fiberglass insulation.

  5. Well it depends on how big the hole is...

    It the Bathroom floor unfinished?

If it is I would make a tin plate out of sheet metal for filling in the opening

cauking the gap closed than put the flooring over it.

  6. Cut a piece of Styrofoam to fit the hole.
