Question:

What to wear as a guest to a vow renewal?

My good friend's parents are having a 25th wedding anniversary party... while the party is not going to be a formal sit down dinner, they are having a short reaffirmation ceremony with vows and speeches and prayers from their children (we are all in our mid-twenties). Is it inappropriate for me to wear a white dress as a guest at something like this? The dress is a stiff cotton with empire waist, square neckline and thick straps with black embroidery on the neckline, straps and hem.

It's really quite a sweet summery dress and I had planned to wear it before I knew it was a vow renewal ceremony. Help. :-)

  1. I believe under these circumstances a white dress is allowed.. after all this is their 25th and therefore really their silver wedding anniversary.. not their actual wedding. then it would be rude to wear white.. that is the bride's privilege but I doubt very much that after 25 years of marriage the bride will wear white.. something silver would be more appropriate.. It is great that they are married 25 years and still feel that strongly about each other that they are prepared to renew their vows.. you should wear what you want as long as it is a bit festive.. for the occasion.. as this is not the original wedding I say.. you can wear white... x*x

  2. I didnt know that white was sooooooooooooo offensive -_-.... I would think that dress works... god people can be so expecting of you.

  3. It's fine to wear the dress you described. It's just a vow renewal, not a wedding. You can wear whatever you like.

If you're still uncertain about the white dress, wear a summery sweater with the dress that you can take off later.

    :-)
