What to wear for RCI cruise?

It's a 4 night cruise, and I'm dbating what to wear to dinner on one of the nights. I have a party dress I could wear, but I'm not to fond of it. I read that sundresses are acceptable in the dining room. I have a nice, strapless cotton dress that's plaid. It looks nice and I love it, but I'm wondering if it would be appropriate? I know it's a shorter cruise, so it's less formal, but I don't want to look stupid.

  1. On most of the nights casaul dresses is perfectly ok and as long as you dont wear jeans you wouldnt get kicked out of the main dining room during the formal night either. But you might find yourself a little bit odd when most of the people is dressed up. Onother thing is that you can get kicked out of the captains reception if youre not dressed up propely (and thats means a tie for gentlemen). But otherwise just wear the same cloth as you would on a downtown reasturant. And please remember that bathing clothes are not alouded in the dining rooms and buffets at any time. Johan

  2. You won't look stupid.  The items you mentioned would be great.  Despite what they say, people just don't dress up on cruises like they used to.  A sun dress (strapless or otherwise) would be perfect.  A nice pair of black capris with a pretty top would be nice.  A nice dress shirt tucked into khaki's is appropriate for a man.

  3. even on short cruises it's okay to dress fancy. but i will just say that on most nights you wear something semi-casual. but there will probably be a formal night and that night you wear the party dress. but I've been on, i don't know, 10-15 cruises(my mom's a travel agent), and a lot of people wear fancy stuff every day. on that same note a lot of people wear casual stuff every night. so no matter what you wear you won't look stupid you'll fit in on anything as long as it's aloud in the dinning room.

  4. As fun as it is, Formal nights are not a requirment...so you can where what you want.

We cruised with RC last summer and on one of the formal nights everyone at the table next to us were in jeans and t-shirts.  They were permitted to eat in the dining room.  Now granted most people were dressed quite formally...some probably a little over the top!

My feeling is, it's an opportunity for you to have fun, get dressed up with your family and have portraits done.  when else to you get all dressed up?!  Just don't stress about it.  Choose what makes you feel beautiful and comfortable and don't worry what anyone else says.
