Hello,

I'm going to Germany on Friday and I was wondering how cold it really is there. Weather.com says 50 degrees, but do I need to buy special clothing to wear underneath my own clothing? Like thermal long pants and shirts? Or can I get away with my normal clothes and a jacket. Is it diffrent weather where I need to worry about real cold temperature? How cold is it compared to San Francisco this time of year? Thanks!

  1. After we survived the bad storm from Thursday to Friday the weather is changing on the weekend and getting cold and for the next week they say snow. So you need some warm clothes.

    Have fun...

  2. Very windy right now, but mild 50.  This weekend is ok, but starting Monday it is actually going to be cold.  A change from the mild winter.  The temperature could be dropping to the 20s next week.

If you are used to warm weather, I suggest bringing some thermal underwear.  Don't forget gloves, scarf, and an umbrella too, it rains occasionally.

I love Heidelberg... Have a great time!

  3. Okay, well I'm Canadian so I'm fairly used to the cold, but I've lived in Germany for a year, and it's really mild right now compared to the usual winter weather. Most importantly, I would recommend a scarf, since it's REALLY windy right now, but you should be okay with jeans and a warm coat (wool or ski jacket, etc.) and a sweater. During the evening it gets colder, but I've never worn long underwear...you may want to pack cords or some warm pants, and boots to keep your feet warm at night. Gloves or mittens help as well, but don't worry it's way warmer than it usually is this time of year...no snow (although maybe we should worry, this is global warming!)

  4. It is cold and windy here in Germany today. Not a good day for sightseeing. I would wear warm clothes, i. e. jacket, hat, scarf, pants and comfortable shoes. We have yet to see a snowflake this winter. I think that if you wear layers you'll be fine.

  5. No, you don't need thermal underwear, especially not in Frankfurt, for heaven's sake. Frankfurt is in a valley where it is warmer than other places. Normal thinner winterjacket is enough. And if we really should get a cold spell, we have plenty of stores to buy stuff, wouldn't worry about that one bit.

    Have fun!

  6. Buy some long warm under ware to take with you . from what i heared it is a milder winter then usually.but you are spoil ed in San Francisco with warmer weather then Germany. It is a lot damper then here too and i live in Canada.Brr Country.but when i go over there in the winter time it always takes time to adjust to the damper temperatures you feel it more.

  7. Rainy and very strong wind for Friday. Although we have a extreme mild winter scarf and long underwear should help to protect you. Temperatures vary between 48° and 55° F.

Have a save trip and great the bay;-)
