  1. You probably won't need to work out. You'll be walking and climbing all day and getting more exercise just doing any regular Parisian activity than you would going to the gym or running in America. That's why the French are slimmer. When I am in Paris I realize that I walk at least 6-7 hours a day at a good pace, just walking around and going from one place to another.

Walk to the top of the Eiffel tower instead of using the elevator, walk up Montmartre, walk everywhere instead of using public transportation. Most monuments involve climbing a lot of stairs. In my opinion working out will be a waste of the little time you will be spending in Paris.

If you absolutely feel that you have to run in the morning, your regular outfit will be perfectly fine, but no one runs in the streets. You'll have to go to one of the parks. Most people do it outside the city, in the Bois de Boulogne west of Paris or the Bois de Vincennes east of Paris. I haven't seen too many joggers in any of the downtown parks although there are a few in the Jardin du Luxembourg and Jardin des Tuileries.

Have fun in Paris but trust me, you'll stay in shape just by visiting it. Working out makes sense when living in suburban America where most people rely on cars, not in Paris where people walk all the time.

  2. Any clothes will be fine - fashion is pretty much the same than in the US.

Many people run and exercise in Paris, it is very common and absolutely normal (though I would say French are not exactly obsessed with sport). Parks are better for running than streets, but streets are ok too - only they are often very busy so joggers prefer parks.

And yes, plan to walk a lot anyway :)

  3. i've been to france in the beginning of july and let me tell you one thing, it is HOT!! so shorts and a tee shirt are perfectly fine. Europe is a lot less modest than we are in america, you'd be surprised what you'd see walking down the champs-elyesse on a saturday night. i would even suggest wearing a tank top and shorts.

If you're going to paris there are hundreds of people on the streets at any given time, so yes a lot of people do it. Espically if you go to one of the many parks.
