  1. It depends on what kind of skating you are doing.

When you are practicing you don't have to wear a dress, wear sweatpants or skating pants.

In a competition or show you will probably have to wear a dress, you could also try some dance dresses which are a lot longer.

  2. What level are you in?  A knee length skirt would look dorky though because skaters don't just wear them to skate around..its to jump and spin

  3. the reason figure skaters wear short skirts is because a long skirt gets in the way of doing jumps and spins.

They also wear special skirts with a built in underwear type thing, so if you did any spinning you would be able to see your underwear, so if you are a real figure skater, I don't recommend a regular skirt. But if you want to, just wear stretchy pants like yoga pants or leggings and you'll be fine.

  4. a lot of people i know wear hotpants with skating tights underneath which seem to work fine. another option is just trackpants, or a skirt with legging and tights. the only downside to wearing a long skirt not made for skating is that it wont have any 'panties' sewn in. but if you feel more comfortable wearing one then go ahead :) its entirely up to you. try getting hold of a dance skirt, theyre longer and i think they look elegant :) it does take a while getting used to the fact that the very short skirts fly up when spinning and jumping, but if you ever do decide to wear them (its up to you) remember people will be concentrating on their skating, and wont at all be thinking 'ooh look what she's wearing'. it took me about a month to get used to the length of the skirts, but now i have i feel very comfortable :) we've all been there i think..

happy skating! whatever you decide to wear just remember to have fun :)

  5. wear what works for you. if you don't like short skirts, a lot of people wear stretchy pants instead. just make sure they allow for freedom of motion.

(note: a knee length skirt can restrict the motion of your legs, and skirts shouldn't be worn skating without tights underneath. (what if you fall?) however, if you usually or always wear knee-length skirts, and that's what you're comfortable in, go ahead and wear a knee length skirt. just wear some tan or skin-colored tights (not pantyhose) underneath.)

  6. I totally understand what you mean!! You can see half the skater's butt...

I think that in comparision to the other people, a knee length one might look dorky. If you are going skating for fun, you can wear sweats or jeans, but if you need a skirt I suggest you go for one that is halfway between the knee and butt.

I have attached some links of some cute skating skirts that you are hopefully able to feel comfortable in:
