  1. Firstly, don't listen to Tom H, he is either severely misinformed (strange because he says he lives in Australia) or trying to have you arrive and suffer!!

Our winter gets very cold. It snows on the Victoria (melbourne) border, as well as in the snowy mountains of New South Wales.

Your going to need jumpers, jackets, jeans, tracksuits, a beanie & scarf (gloves might be a bit too much) but you won't need snowgear unless you are heading to the snow. You will only need a heavy duty jacket if you are going to be  outside late at night or up high on a mountain or in a wind tunnel (wind is what really chills you)

You can still pack t-shirts, but be prepared to be wearing jumpers/jackets over them, July is the middle of winter.

  2. Dress warm! Lately Sydney has been hit by really cold weather. It's not as cold in the day (but it's still quite chilly) and it's freezing at night. At the moment it's just under 10 degrees celsius (about 50 degrees F). The days here lately have been at its highest between 16-19 degrees (60.8 to 66.2 F). On average the lowest temp around Sydney is 8-12 (46.4 - 53.6 F)

Melbourne can get even more colder than Sydney. Highest temps lately is around 15-16 (around 59 F) and lowest temps are around 10-11 C and as low as 6 (42.8 F)

The more warm clothes the better. Cover up and stay toasty.

    Good luck!

  3. it can be very cold in july so you will need warm clothes and a good coat/jacket

  4. I wouldn't say "lots of warm clothes" as others here have... it's not *that* cold, compared with northern Europe or America.

Most days in Melbourne, the temperature is about 12-15 C, and you will be quite comfortable in jeans and jumper/fleece/jacket, and maybe a scarf if it's windy or when it gets colder at night.

There's a drought here at the moment so it doesn't rain very much or very heavily.

If you want to pack light, a single warm jumper/fleece and a light jacket/coat should be fine.

You don't need to be lugging around bags full of heavy warm clothes, it's not Antarctica!

  5. Lots of warm clothes and a good jacket as melbourne is usually colder than sydney. Have fun in Oz!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Wear jeans, jackets, scarfs and a beany. Have just come back from Melbourne and the weather especially at night was extremely cold. But don't dress too warmly as the shops are heated. Sydney can be very rainy but can have nice weather. So pack light clothes. Umbrellas and a good jacket to travel around in are a must. Melbourne especially stylish ( if you wear black clothes in melbourne you can't go wrong) but there fanastic markets in both cities.Have fun buying clothes especially in Melbourne. The clothes are fanastic and the Queen Victoria markets(Melbourne) and the Paddington markets(Sydeny) have plenty of clothes to buy so dont pack too much.
