What to wear to a informal/casual wedding reception?

Hi,

I was wondering what to wear to a informal/casual evening wedding reception. My other half is wearing a sort of going out dress so i was thinking of wearing a plain black suit and plain white shirt without a tie.........BUT im thinking this may be slightly over dressed?

I then thought why not just wearing a plain black sports jacket and black jeans and possibly a white shirt with shoes.........

Any advice would be helpful.......

I would go with either the suit without the tie OR you could wear the suit pants with the shirt and tie. It will look a little less 'formal' without the suit jacket. Good luck. Hope I've helped.

Ps, I don't think jeans are ok even though it is a casual wedding. I think there's some sort of silent law about it. You just are not supposed to wear jeans to a wedding. I think its a crock cos I like jeans lol.
