Question:

What to wear to a summer wedding?

I have to go to my boyfriends cousins wedding next week and I totally forgot about it until now. I've only been to one wedding in my life and I was too small to pick my own clothes. I have no idea what to wear. I know I shouldn't wear white because it takes away from the bride. I've also heard that I should avoid wearing the color that her bridesmaids will be wearing so that people won't think I am a part of the wedding. Problem with that is I have no idea what color they are wearing!

Please tell me what I could wear!! It is at a beach..so no heels for me. Maybe wedges, though, because that should be managable.

Also, I am short (5'2'') with pretty big hips so sometimes I can look box-ish if I wear the wrong dress. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!! :)

  1. At the last beach wedding I attended most people were casually dressed (sun dresses, short dress pants or khaki pants with a nice top). As for shoes, the wedding party was not wearing shoes - nor were most of the guests! Really it depends on the formality of the event.

  2. Here is a great website. Check it out if you want to: http://weddingkits.org/, http://beautykits.org/

  3. How about a nice sundress.  And you can have shades or "specks" of the wedding colors without looking like an extra bridesmaid.  Since your hips are big (I have a small waitst, big hips and big butt), I'd suggest wearing a dress that's A-line.  You can never go wrong with it, and it always compliments any shape.  Or, linen looks really nice at a beach wedding.

As far as shoes, you are right to go with a wedge.  Good luck!!!

  4. I think you should be safe with a sun dress and wedges (which you can take off on the sand during the ceremony).

The bridesmaids will probably be wearing a brides-maidy type dress so I think you'll be safe whatever colour you choose. If you are really worried choose a dress that is a few different colours- as bridesmaids usually tend to wear dresses that are just one colour.

The most flattering for your body type would be a V-neck A-line style dress. Like this:

  5. How about a classic tea party dress ??? Like this : http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/2/0/0/22/...

  6. you should probably wear a hawaian type dress- you know the kind you tie at the back. or you can get one of those strapless tight dresses from hollister. or you can get a hawaian type tight-at-the-top-lose-at-the-bottom type dress if you're really so worried about your hip. even if you aren't, it might look attractive at a summer wedding if it's at a beach. the color should probably be more or less plain-maybe light blue, lavender, ar yellow. if your skin is sort of tan like latin american, pink should look nice too. if the wedding is during the evening, i suggest lavender and light blue or yellow for midday. or even a chinese-style dress-preferrably light blue-with chopstick things you stick in your hair would look nice. they will probably look good with platform shoes or flats. wedges would be nice too. if you chose chinese, no one will probably think you're part of the wedding even with the same color as the bridemaids cuz there isn't much chance they'll be wearing chinese.

  7. Try and find a floral A-line dress in a pastel colour with cap sleeves or a halter neck and a low neckline to flatter your bust. The cap sleeves or halter neck will broaden your shoulders, balancing out your curvy hips. Wedges would look really nice but try ones without an ankle strap as they will make your legs look small.
