Question:

What to wear to a wedding reception?

Hi folks,

I'm going to my roommate's wedding on Sunday, and I had a question about fashion etiquette. I'm in the wedding party, so my dress for the actual wedding is taken care of. But I did want to change before the reception, since I'm one of three in the party and I don't want to be the only one of my friends dressed super-dressy.

Is it okay to wear a black and white floral printed dress and red heels to a wedding reception? I know better than to wear white to a wedding or reception, and I'm unsure as to whether black is in poor taste - so I wasn't sure if wearing black and white together would be acceptable or not.

Any feedback would be appreciated - better safe than sorry :)

  1. Nowadays black is acceptable (especially mixed with other colors) for weddings.

Ask your roommate if she approves of your proposed dress, since ultimately it is her opinion that really matters.

  2. I have seen lots of women wear dresses such as you suggest to wedding receptions. Never saw a bride get offended by any of them. But, if you are really unsure, ask the bride.

    Regards,

    Dan

  3. your dress sounds like it would be fine

however...i'd ask the bride if it is alright to change. usually since you're sitting at the head table, pics will be taken and it'd look weird if one bridesmaid was wearing a different outfit from all the other people. in all the weddings i've been to, the bridal party always wears what they had on.

  4. Check with the bride.
