Question:

What to wear to an interview in the summertime?

My interview gear (or my "monkey suit" as I like to call it) consists of a light-light brown long-sleeved sweater, medium-dark brown slacks, matching shoe-boots, and a long, cream-colored knit button-down sweater (kinda hard to describe but JC Penney sells em').

It's comfortable during the fall, winter, and parts of the spring but since this is the summer and I have an interview in a few days, do you think I could go without the knit sweater and just go with the sweater and slack combo or should I "tough the weather" and go all out? I am planning to take public transportation and I will do some light walking though not too much.

This is for an entry level, non-professional position (library tech. position).

  1. This is a very good question!

I once had this problem. I had to drive a long way for this interview in the middle of a summer heat wave. My car A/C ddidn't work and I had already been to an interview the previous week in my suit and was soaked in sweat when I arrived. I felt somewhat embarassed even though it was obvious why I was. So this time I called ahead and asked the interviewer if he minded that I just came dressed in a golf shirt and shorts since there was a heat wave on and my A/C in my car didn't work. He chuckled and said, "No problem!"

If you're at all concerned, just call ahead and ask the interviewer about it.

    Best,

  2. dress for the weather, and the level of position you are applying for.  lose the sweater for a knit top or button down shirt with the slacks or a skirt would be appropriate in my book.
