What to write about for an environmental article?

So i'm writing an article for the environmental section of a high school newspaper. What is a hot topic that you believe will interest high school teens. I don't think writing an article on global warming will be very good because it is so controversial.

Write an article on global warming.  I am editor and chief of my high school newspaper and we did a three page spread on the topic.  Many students licked the topic.

It was not to controversial for our newspaper I do not see why it would be for your newspaper.  

Put what I call a "teen twist" on the article.  "Teen Twist" meaning, write the story from an angle that interests teens.  

Teenagers pay for gasoline to drive and that is one of the main causes of global warming.  

If this does not work do a story on how the earth has changed due to human evolution.  Do not strickly focus on the negative affects humans have had on the planet, but also the good things humans have done.

It will probably depend.  Your goal is to write an article about our changing environment, right?

Well, I have a few ideas.

One is to write an article on renewable energy (solar, hydro, wind, etc.)  I think that alot of people have heard of it, but don't really know what it's all about.  For info on renewable energy sources, go to:

Pretty cool stuff.

My second might be do an article on maybe decreasing forests in your area.  You could find out local info if there are trees being cut down, the impact, etc.  That may not work if you live in an area where these actions may not happen as frequently.

Another may be polar ice caps.  Yes, it is the decrease in the ice, which is one large component to global warming, but it's a whole other theme.  You could do a more scientific thing or an overview, however you like
