A few of my guests that are coming my wedding are bringing guests with them, but I don't know their names, what do I put on their place cards? I feel its too long to write "Mr. John Smith's Guest"....Any suggestions?

  1. I believe you could just write "Guest", naturally the guest of John Smith is going to sit next to John Smith so it is o.k. to have more then one place card that says Guest on it.

  2. If the guests are easily approachable just send them an email and say that in order to make all of your guests feel comfortable you'd like to make a place card with their guest's name on it so could they let you know what the guest's name is.

  3. It is acceptable to simply write Guest on a card.  Someones guest would most likely sit next to them.

Also, acceptable is to have one place card for the couple - unless it is extremely formal wedding.

  4. Smith Guest..sounds good to me :)

  5. Everyone who comes to your wedding is YOUR guest. Strictly speaking, it is improper for you to invite someone you don't know. Since that has happened, you must downplay any indication that the person isn't welcome for their own sake and that you aren't able to provide a social guarantee for all your guests.

There are two ways to do this. Either you must contact Mr John Smith prior to the wedding and find out the name of the person who will accompany him; or you must provide your guest-book attendant with a black pen and some place cards. When Mr Smith arrives she should find out his friend's name, write the place card, and have it placed on the table in the correct location.

The next time you have a large party, you can avoid this social faux pas by speaking to Mr Smith before you issue invitations, asking whom he would like you to invite, and sending her an invitation in her own name to her own address.

  6. Guest of Mr. John Smith

  7. Friend of John Smith sounds better.

  8. Either:

    John Smith's +1

    or

John Smith's Plus One (more formal!)

    or

    I'm with stupid <arrow towards John Smith's place>

  9. You should call Mr. John Smith and ask him the guests name.

Then when he tells you, you put her name on there.

  10. guest of insert name here
