What to write on a wedding invite asking guests to pay for meal?

Hi,

Me and my partner are gettinf married in less then 2 months and i am lookin for a sweet poem to write witht he invite asking for them to pay for meal rather then a gift can someone please help me asap

  1. You can't.  Sorry.  If you can't afford a sit-down meal for your reception, then you need to change your plans.  It is the absolute height of rudeness to invite people to a party or a wedding and then tell them they have to pay for their portion.


  2. That's pretty crazy. Never heard that one before. Requesting guests to contribute to a charity instead of a gift is one thing, but having them pay for their meal is another. At my wedding it was $45 a plate. Some people can't always afford that. Especially if they are paying for more than one person.

    Maybe you can call it a "pot luck" and ask everyone to bring a covered dish instead of a gift. That way there's more of a food selection too. I've heard of people doing that before.
