Question:

What toiletries should I pack & how should I pack them?

We're traveling internationally & I didn't want to take the chance that where we are going mey or may not have our brands of toiletries, hair products etc. We want to make sure things don't leak in the suitcases & should we carry that in our carryon's or storage? Can you carry erosols?

  1. Here's what I do:

    Things that are liquidy and likely to leak (like shampoo) go in a ziploc bag.  Then those plus stuff not likely to leak (like toothpaste) go in my toiletry bag.  It's a little squishy, so it has some "give" to it, so if the bag gets a bit crushed it's not likely to make anything leak.  Then all that goes in the center of my suitcase (so clothes provide extra padding) and I check my suitcase.

    The only risk there is if my luggage gets lost, in which case I wouldn't mind trying new local products for a couple days.

    If you use a gel deodorant, it will expand a bit, so when you take the cap off a little bit will have oozed out of the container and will be inside the cap.  Only a tiny bit, though.  It will just feel like the first time you use it after the flight, like you put too much on.

    I don't know about aerosols...I didn't know anything was even still sold in aerosol cans.  I don't think I've seen one since the 80s.  Well, except bug spray, I guess.
