  1. I personally use a long slender aluminum drift. Of course you can damage a bearing this way so I hope you were planning on changing them.

  2. A brass drift has always worked well for me.

The nice thing about a slide hammer is the straight pull.

A cocke d   bearing is a pain, going in or out.

Is it worth it to buy a slide hammer? If all you're doing is wheel and swingarm bearings, probably not. If you plan on anything else, it's great to have one in the box.

  3. Wheel bearing removal tool -

You can get away with using a punch to remove wheel bearings, but you must use the proper tool to remove the swingarm bearings.

If you don't - you're just asking for problems !!!

Can you afford to buy a new swingarm?

  4. Your question is waaaaaay too vague. You haven't said which bearings you're removing, which "kit" you're considering buying, or how much it costs.

I would also have to know how much you paid for the bike, how much you know about "bearings" (are we talking crankshaft mainbearings, steering head bearings, wheel bearings.. or what?)

Get two or three quotes from dealers or non-franchised shops on what the repairs would cost if THEY did them (they probably have the tool on their shelves) and weight this against the cost of buying the tools AND your ability to perform the task.

Good luck.and don't be afraid to pay a skilled mechanic to perform this "tricky" task.

  5. Which bearings?  Don't be too specific.  Some tools cannot be substituted.

  6. depends on which bike as well..

also what the bearings are made from...

but if your mechanically minded you can build your own tool for the removal...

It also depends if your planning to reuse the bearings or fit new ones..

  7. I use a brass drift punch most of the time.I also have a slide hammer i built myself.
