Thanks for all the responses. We have now decided to take a tour while in Vietnam. We land in HCMC so we will take a tour out of there. What price can I expect if we want on the cheaper end of the scale but it is very important that we have a clean hotel room with private bathroom. Somewhere within our 2 weeks in Vietnam I would like to go to Hoi An (people have said to go there for the tailors) to get a dress made for myself and a suit made for my husband. Any recommendations for that also.

  1. Well there are to many variables to consider in this situation to give an accurate quotation.  It depends on what type of travel you are looking for and if you are looking to go with nice moderate priced private tours or be more so like cattle and join the pre-existing group tours now they are cheap and sufficient but they lack a lot of the truly hidden majestic places of Vietnam.  Also to take into account is that are you going to fly from place to place or take trains that makes a large difference in prices they also have an open bus HCMC to Hanoi but due to the lack of time i would not recommend that to you and your husband.  With the roughest estimate staying around the 2-3* hotel rating and flying place to place i think you will be looking at around  1,000 give or take for a nice comfortable tour it may be cheaper that would have to be worked out in the exact details i am sure if your budget needed you can get quite a bit cheaper but again all in the details.

  2. viet nam is very easy to get around on your own. any hotel can tell you where and how to get train, plane and bus tickets. sai gon, go to pham ngu lau / de tam / bui vien streets and you can get rooms for $7-$20us in 20diffrent places .. dont be afraid to go into the alleys.. they are safe and cheap and fun..in nha trang; tran phu street [ beach rd.], and the next 2 streets west[ huong vuong and nguyen thien thuat, biet thu &tran quan khai]..all have hotels under $15 a night [ i know one place for $5].. hoi an on "ba trieu street you can get a room for $7us.. ha noi is a little more expensive, $12.. sa pa you should never pay more than $4us..all rooms i mentioned are very safe, clean[ some are old] and have hot water and tv[ from only viet stations to full satalite depending]  ac can cost $2 more but in most places you wont need it..
