  1. If you like history, but aren't too bothered about going somewhere exciting at night how about Alnwick? There is a train station at Alnmouth and you can get a bus into Alnwick which has a castle, world famous gardens, nice restaurants and you can get buses to other castles in the area. You can get the bus back to the station on Sunday and a direct train to Edinburgh

  2. leeds, manchester, howarth (if u like culture) blackpool if you want something totally different lol

    enjoy your stay

  3. sheffield

  4. As you land at East Midlands then the obvious suggestion is Nottingham.

  5. Manchester is great for shopping, dining, and has a young fabulous bar scene. It's the biggest city center. York and Durham have interesting historical aspects--the wall of York and York Minster, the cathedral and college grounds of Durham.  Great walks along the river there.  York is right en route to Edinburgh.

  6. Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Chester, York, Liverpool, Preston, Lancaster, Durham,

  7. what about carlisle

  8. Depends what you like. For history Durham is nice. For nightlife Newcastle is better.

If it's both then York is probably your best bet.

  9. Nottingham is only up the road and worth a visit, as is Manchester and I'd reccomend the nightlife in both.

  10. Well, I used to live in Birmingham ( now living in Cyprus) and on a recent visit to the U.K, someone took me to Chester.....I really enjoyed it....and would definitely go back there.

  11. birmingham

  12. Manchester/York/Leeds.

  13. I'm weighing in behind Newcastle too as it has such clean air quality and the local accents  are so good - Friendly people lots to see and do -

  14. there is two which i think would be the best Newcastle which is really diverse and vibrant at all times of the day its great and Durham which is really old and historic

  15. You can't visit northern england without coming to newcastle.

  16. Chester, very good for shopping, and interesting place too, if it's on the way.
