  2. take another look at heaven sents answer, and think about this addition......your child depends on you to be there each step of the way as they enter into the world .....they need you to be there to read, play, plan, teach, and any other way to interact with them.....they need you to introduce them to as many activities as you can, and encourage them to try them at least once or twice....they need you to answer their questions and to question them too.....they need you to read and to see you reading....they need to see you doing things and working through problems....and they need you to be strong enough to stay away from all of the electronic toys....they are great to use in the car or at a doctors office...but on a regular basis they need love, caring, understanding, good quailty toys(ones that need hands on action and imagination---blocks, books, art supplies, dolls, stuffed animals, time outside, sand, water, and any other toy or game that needs their mind and hands to use and explore)....and they need good quality people in there lives...parents, friends, caregivers, teachers etc......but ultimately the best of these is YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spending time and playing with you child is the best game that will make your child smarter.

  4. interaction with yourself will aid development

  5. A great site for that is starfall, a game site and learning site together.  Several people I have recommended that to have all told me how much it helped a child learn and have fun at the same time.

  6. Books are the #1 thing to increase your child's intelligence.

REsearch studies have even shown the houses with more books tend to have smarter children. And daily reading to your children will improve their reading, attention, vocabulary etc. So whatever types of books will engage, entertain your children will lso teach them. Also consider books on tape or CD with follow along books for the kids.

  16. Your child will never get smarter. They will just get better at retaining information, using their problem solving skills and knowledge to apply to intellectual tasks. IQ does not increase, although there are lots of things you can do to help your child improve their memory and skills.

Toys in general do very little. There is no substitute for actually sitting down with your child with a workbook, or giving them a book to read to you. True, leapfrog can 'make learning fun', but the progress speeds are much slower, and your child does not learn the study skills and methods to solve problems harder than 'what comes after A in the alphabet' or 'what is 10 minus 3'

You need to get your child some math and english workbooks as well as verbal and non verbal reasoning books. For grammar school entry, these are the skills that are tested, and whether or not you want your child to go to a grammar school, these are the most beneficial and important skills your child needs to build. Leapfrog will not teach you any of these. It is just the lazy parents way out. True, it is better than watching tv, but is not a substitute for real learning.

In conclusion, you need to sit your child down, and get them to read to you, or fill in a worksheet every day. Instead of spending £30 upwards on a toy which barely works, take them out to the zoo as a treat after they finish a weeks worth of extra work.
