Question:

What track events should I do?

I'm a pretty fast runner. I got 6:28 on the mile because I have been training for that. I'm competing in my county's Hershey Track and Field competition as a 13-year-old girl against 13- and 14-year-olds.

I think 6:28 is good enough for competing, since I got only 1:29 seconds below the national record for this competition. I'm also doing standing long jump, which I've never done before, but I'm a pretty good jumper anyways.

I have one event open, still. I want to do something else-I can do 100 meter, 200 meter, or 800 meter. I could also do a softball throw, but I don't think I'd be really good at that...

I got 3:05 when I was running the 800 as part of the mile run. I generally get 2:15 when we run 1/3 of a mile in PE, but I picked it up to go faster one day and got 2:04. I've never really fancied myself as a sprinter, but I was racing my friend the other day, and a track person commented on how fast we were.

I focused on the mile for training, but I'm pretty good at sprints

  1. ummm, it's usually up to you   :/

  2. If you've focused on the mile for training and think you are good at sprints I'd say you'd be right at home in the 800. See how it goes. If you plan on continuing to run in high school you have plenty of time to figure out which events you will pursue. If this is your plan, I'd recommend trying a variety of events and seeing what you enjoy and what you are good at. Good luck!
