  1. If you are short on money, try the bus or the plane instead. Train tends to be expensive. With bus the price is 59 EUR return regular fare and 29 EUR return cheapest promotional fare. You get the promotional fare if you book at least 30 days in advance.

To get back to your question: www.jizdenka.cz gives me 85 EUR as regular fare one-way for Cologne-Paris by train. You can only beat this price if you hit upon a special offer for the Thalys (I've seen tickets advertised at 59 EUR) or use the Nighttrain from another city than Cologne. The nighttrain from Stuttgart or Karlsruhe is sometimes available for 29 EUR and the TGV from Stuttgart sometimes goes for 39 EUR one-way special price.

One example: At Sat, Sept 22nd at 12:55 and 16:55 from Stuttgart fare is 39 EUR to Paris special price. Fare to Stuttgart with Schoene-Wochenende-Ticket from Cologne to Stuttgart is 33 EUR. First train of the connection to Stuttgart on this Saturday with SWE-Ticket is at 4:56 from Cologne with 4 changes. (To get the connections you can use with SWE ticket select "local transport only" when you use www.bahn.de.)

Total price by train one-way to Paris this way: 72 EUR. Travel time: 11 hrs. With this data at hand, I suggest you take the bus.  It is 32 EUR one-way from Cologne to Paris without any changes and travel time is roughly 10 hrs.
