  1. You will have to go from Amsterdam to Utrecht which is about a 45 minute drive by train. Utrecht is the main train hub in the Netherlands. From there you can catch an ICE to Paris. But why dont you take a cheap flight from Schipol to Paris??? They cost nothing nowadays.

  2. There are direct high speed trains from between Amsterdam Centraal Station and Paris Gare du Nord, both ways.

You can also join that train in The Hague, (Station HS,) and Rotterdam, Centraal station.)

If you do not want the High speed train you can still travel with normal trains but you will have to change at least 2 times, maybe even 3, and it will take a few hours more. (But still not more than it used to take before the high speed trains were invented.)

You can get info, in French:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/leisure/fr/l... If you go to the English version of this site you seem to be send on to a place selling tickets for highspeed trains only.

In English on the German rail site:

    http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/... Very user friendly.

    The Belgium Railway site:

http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/index.php Very good in English, French, German and Dutch.

    Or the Dutch site:

    http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/ns2007/en/...

Or the Dutch international site, also more about selling tickets for Highspeed trains:

    http://www.nshispeed.nl/en

    Added:

The answer you already got is wrong, you do not get the train to Paris from Utrecht, when you are in Utrecht they will tell you to go to Rotterdam or Antwerp in Belgium in order to get a train to Paris.

And while most flights in Europe can be cheap, dirt cheap if you book early, the flights between Paris and Amsterdam are mostly not cheap at all.
