  1. If you are talking about NY City, you'll have to go to at least 125th St-Park Av to catch a MetroNorth train (Harlem line) or at Grand Central.  There are 2 Mt Vernon stations - Mt. Vernon West (Harlem Line) and Mt. Vernon East (New Haven Line).

You could take a bus (Bx12) to the Fordham station (at Fordham Plaza/Webster Av) for the MetroNorth Harlem Line or limited New Haven Line service.

If you have to go to the New Haven line station your best bet is to start at Grand Central as only a limited number of NH Line trains stop at 125th or Fordham (unless you time your trip well).

  2. Huh?  What city are you talking about.  If it's Washington D.C., Mount Vernon has no metro service directly to it.

  3. forget taking Metro North to Washington heights. walk to the 2 train in Wakefield, which is just over the border into the Bronx.  take the 2 train into Manhattan and transfer to the 1 train at 96th street, and then take an uptown 1 to Washington heights to 191st street.  as long as this may sound, it is a ton less circuitous than having to take Metro North to 125.  i hope this is of some help.  good luck with your travels.

  4. Try AmTrak.com, or possiblly Amtrack.com; I'm pretty sure they have a schedule that will show when, where and how!
