It says must have working knowledge of state animal control laws, policies, ordinances and procedures. Anyone here ever had a job like this and can offer some advice?

  1. that is a normal statement in any job description -- apply and tell the you will learn all of the laws once hired!!

  2. Do some research on our own -- using the Internet, you can find out state animal control laws, policies, ordinances and procedures. You can even call the shelter or your city offices as an anonymous concerned citizen and ask:

-- what is the leash law for your city/county?

-- do all dogs (including hunting dogs) and cats have to be licensed with the city?

-- is there a different fee for a dog that is fixed versus a dog that isn't?

-- who should someone in your city call if there is a dog that frequently barks  next door? What about a loose dog? What about a dog, cat, rabbit, horse, etc., that seems to be abused or neglected?

-- where does your city and state rank in terms of the stray animal population?

-- what laws are there regarding exotic animals?
