I know you can train without equipment, but I love having makiwaras and focus targets, etc. What are some things I should definately get? We are going to lay mats down in our basement and convert it into a dojo as I will teach my five younger siblings karate-I am junior instructor/senior student at my dojo. They range from ages 3-14. Thanks so much! God bless!

  1. Yeah, makiwara boards are really good to have, and also punching pads that can be held by other people.  Mats are good for practicing throws, and if you can find a stationary surface to practice kicks against, that's probably also a good idea.

  2. A punching bag , some wrestling mats , the makiwaras , some wooden swords (kendo or bokkens) , any other training weapons of choice that you like , sparring gloves , some oriental decor , a few light medicine balls , jumping rope ,  light weights and a little karate book library.
