  3. That might be the new growth of a yew (Taxus sp.).  These are grown as ornamentals.

    If that's what this is, the undersides of the leaves will have two withe lines of stomata, one on either side of the main vein. You can see this on leaf in the center of the photo in this link:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/calliope/25...  as well as the typical fruit, a fleshy red "bell shaped structure with a blue/violet center called an "aril".

    These can be large enough to be trees, but in landscaping they're pruned into bushes, hedges, and "sculptures":  http://www.flickr.com/photos/neosnaps/24...

    There are several species of yews that are used for gardening, and the one in the photo I posted above with the aril shows the leaves almost flat in rows on either side of the twig, but the growth is actually spiral around the twig as seen here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/bizzygirl/2...  which is more what yours looks like.
