Question:

What triggers Persecutory Paranoia?

Is it a born illness or can it possibly be triggered by past abuse? I was diagnosed about 5 years ago, and I didn't have it all my life.

  1. Wow... I'm going to have to look up 'Persecutory,' I'll be back with an answer.

  2. Schizophrenia or trauma, stress and shock.

  3. Do you hear voices?  If so I would say that you ARE being persecuted by THEM.  If not it can be cause of having an insecure attachment to your parents as a child, or even bad experiences with siblings or peers.  If you had none of these then  you might want to take a look at your thinking processes and your emotions.  Good cognitive behavioral therapy can help you with this.  I used to become paranoid, but I overcame it by opposing those thoughts with thoughts about how much I love people and the nonsense that anyone would want to hurt me because really they have too many selfish concerns of their own to be thinking about me at any time and when they do think about me they think about how wonderful I am, therefore no reason to be paranoid and I haven't been paranoid ever since even though I started out as a paranoid schizophrenic.  I overcame it with love and proper thinking.
