  1. It appears that you believe there is only one such pair of rivers.

    There are many.

    Take "White River", for instance.  Wiki lists

    White River (Arkansas)

    White River (Arizona)

    White River (California) in Tulare County

    White River (Colorado-Utah)

    White River (Indiana)

    White River (Lower Michigan)

    White River (Upper Michigan)

    White River (Nevada)

    White River (Oregon)

    White River (South Dakota)

    White River (Vermont)

    White River (Washington)

    How about the Green River?

    Green River (Illinois), a tributary of the Rock River

    Green River (Kentucky), a tributary of the Ohio River

    Green River (Massachusetts)

    Green River (Michigan)

    Green River (North Carolina)

    Green River (North Dakota), a tributary of the Heart River

    Green River (Tennessee), a tributary of the Buffalo River

    Green River (Utah), also traversing Colorado and Wyoming

    Green River (Washington)

    I particularly like Big River.  There are seven rivers named Big River in Alaska, alone, as well as

    Big River (California)

    Big River (Michigan)

    Big River (Missouri)

    Big River (New Hampshire)

    Big River (Oregon)

    Big River (Rhode Island)

    Big River (Washington)

    Big River (Wisconsin)

  2. Very interesting question. I had no idea that there were rivers that shared the same name,

    I searched a bit and found that there are at least eight rivers called "Vermilion River", and another one called "Vermillion River" (with double L).

    In Canada

        * Vermilion River (Alberta)

        * Vermilion River (British Columbia) in Kootenay National Park

        * Vermilion River (Ontario), two different rivers

    In the U.S.

        * Vermillion River (Minnesota), in southern Minnesota

        * Vermilion River (Minnesota), in northern Minnesota

        * Vermilion River (Wabash River tributary), in Illinois and Indiana

        * Vermilion River (Illinois River tributary), in Illinois and Indiana

        * Little Vermilion River (Illinois)

        * Little Vermilion River (Illinois River tributary), in Illinois

        * Vermilion River (Louisiana)

        * Vermilion River (Montana)

        * Vermilion River (Ohio)

        * Vermillion River (South Dakota)

        * Vermillion River (Wisconsin)

  3. The others forgot to list:

    Red River (New Mexico-Texas-Oklahoma-Arkansas-Louisiana...

    Red River (Minnesota-North Dakota)... and then flows into Canada.

    Colorado River (Colorado-Utah-Arizona-Nevada-California... and then flows into Mexico

    Colorado River (Texas)

    Illinois River (Illinois)

    Illinois River (Arkansas-Oklahoma)

    And there are others...
