Can you answer some of these! please!!

1. How is the cause of a tsunami different from the cause of regular waves..

2. What is the difference between a tidal wave nd a tsunami?

3. Why are tsunamis called seismic waves?

4.Why does the amplitude of the wave go up in shallow water?

5. Where will the energy of the wave go when it hits shore?

  1. 1.  Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes.  Regular waves are caused by wind.

    2.   Tidal wave is a popular (and old) term for tsunami.

    3.   Earthquakes are "seismic events".  Therefore tsunamis are "seismic waves".

    4.   Because in shallow water there is less room for the amount of water in the wave, so it has to get pushed up by the rising bottom.

    5.   The energy is expended in raising the water up onto the higher ground, and converted into the kinetic energy of motion.

  2. Alaska & Hawaii Although I'd also bet on Washington, Ore and CA if you want to be picky since a wave doesn't stop when it hits something like Hawaii but diminishes and keeps going. It might be too small to see or measure but it bounces all over the basin.

Regular waves are caused by wind

Tsunami's are caused by either quakes or land slides. The biggest being caused by landslides.

Tsunami means harbor wave, tidal wave is another name for it becuase of the size of the waves in harbors with tidal action.

They are caused by earthquakes sometimes (not always) so they can be called seismic waves.

A wave always has the same height. Even in deep ocean it is the same height. But in the deep ocean almost all of the wave is under water. When the bottom of the wave hits the sea floor it starts to rise. When it raises it converts its speed energy (fast as a jet air liner) to height. The dangers of these waves are that they are not a wave that you think of but a wall that is miles deep. The ocean litterly comes in and stays in. The wave is also not just one wave but several that come in. People will hit the beach after one wave to be hit by the second or third.

  3. Alaska has the most tsumnamis. I think that Hawaii is second. It is because they are in the most geologically unstable areas.

    1. regular waves are caused by weather, warming and cooling of the ocean, and currents. A tsunami is caused by an underwater earthquake or underwater landslide

    2. a tidal wave and a tsunami are different names for the same thing

    3. see answer #1

    4. The volume of water the wave pushes doesn't change so the wave rises in shallow water due to less space for the same amount of water.

    5. The energy is dissipated by the energy released when it hits land as well as by the natural friction of the wave moving through water.
