  1. Look on the Coast Guard capacities plate and see what the boat is rated for. Pontoon boats are inefficient, so I would install a motor as close to the maximum rated power as possible.

  2. there is alot of factors to think about this. how big is the body of water your primarily going to be using it in, how many occupants will be using it, and age of the boat. i have an 22 foot 1984 model  pontoon with a 50 horse merc. on it, but the styrofoam in the pontoons has degraded and became waterlogged over time. it will only go about 20 mph.  ive seen anywhere from 25 to 250 horse motors on these things.

  3. I have a used 1982, 150 hp Merc. OB that will pull two water skiers with no problem at all.  It's sitting on a 24' Bass Tracker pontoon boat.  Jumps out of the hole and moves along real nicely.  It boils down to what do you want your boat to do and what you can afford to pay.  Also, check with the manufacturers recommended size rating.  I wanted a boat to pull skiers, so I went bigger than recommended.  When not pulling a skier, I need to keep it less than 3/4 throttle or it wants to leave the water and fly.  Neat air foil and beat my buddies to their favorite fishing spot every time.

  4. go for the most power, new evinrude E-tec, check them out, id go for the 200 model, i like speed haha

  5. I would suggest you to put an outboard motor between 150 to 250 hp. If you need the boat to go really well in no matter what condition i would put the 250.

  6. 25 hp Mercury

  7. What are you going to be doing with it primarily.

    That's a big 'toon.

    Cruising only 90-115hp

Like to move around - 150 hp

    Gotta push it - 200hp
