  1. If you have short runs - you can buy inexpensive cables form www.monoprice.com.  they start at about $5 !!

I use them on a pretty high-end system - and the work great.  Get HDMI 1.3a compatible cables.

In order to get HDTV picture, you either need to get a HD cable box / DVR from TWC, or CableCard (if your TV is CableCard ready.  Just plugging the wall antenna outlet into your TV will not give you HDTV picture.

  2. I tend to get all my longer cables for HD sources from BlueJeans:

10 ft Belden based cable: $39

10 ft Chinese made cable: $13

I need some 1-2 ft cables to feed a HDMI switch and BlueJeans makes some good cables - but they are heavy & thick and fight bending.  So I got some thinner cable from MonoPrice.

    I am feeding my 61" Samsung with a TimeWarner HD PVR, A BluRay, a HD-DVD and a xBox 360.

  3. Oxygen coating and gold connectors work best.  Best Buy has a house brand called RocketFish that is the cheapest in this line (about $60).  However,  any HDMI is going to be a great digital signal.  Also, any cable going behind a wall has to meet special specifications.  Make sure you are getting a 1.3 HDMI cable.  Instead of what type of cable you may want to ask: What length, instead!  Don't think a 3 or 4 ft. cord is going to make it from the back of the TV to your DVD/box! ...seen it a million times!!  Sounds good in your head but after here and inch, there an inch, you're left a few short of getting it plugged in.  You always want a  little slack anyway so to avoid damaging your cords/inputs.
