He's 15,& has serious Dyspraxia symptoms, with the exception of his mental attitude. He's never gotten frustrated. He did so well with his former O.T. using Bal-A -Vis-X & brain gym. The new one will only do typing (or cursive writing) What has worked for others?

  1. Dyspraxia and the incoordination which is produced by it, is a result of poor information processing in the brain, which in turn has its roots in faulty sensory perception.

In my opinion, your son might benefit from being 'taken back' a few developmental stages in terms of his sensory development and being exposed to a light programme of sensory stimulation.

    Hope this helps

  2. It depends on what the evaluation indicates are his needs. In our system, the OT usually works with handwriting and assistive technology to communicate, like an Alphasmart.

  3. If what the former OT used worked for your son, that is called FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education).  Your son's school district is required to provide FAPE to your son.  If the new OT will not do the other curriculum and your son needs the former curriculum, this is a denial of FAPE.  Also, this could be considered a programmatic change and unless this change and denial to use the former curriculum were spelled out in the IEP you signed to have this change occur, the school district must find an OT to implement the former curriculum.

Bottom line, if the former curriculum worked better for your son, the school district must provide an OT to implement the former curriculum.
