  1. Whos that fool of a woman who said 5 10 is too big for scrum half??? Yea scrummies in general are smaller than that but you do get the exeption here and there. And hes only 16 its not like his playing at world level. Stupid woman

It all depends on your other attributes as to what position best suits you tho man. If youre quick with good acceleration then go for winger. I wouldnt go for scrum half if you dont know the game too well yet. If youre a good with the ball and you can kick well then give inside centre a try.

  2. I'm a similar age 6"2 and 12.5 stone and in the past two years I have played every position apart from front row.the last thing u shud do is limit urself to one position.u need to learn the skills of every position. I have all the important skills due to trying out different positions.I can kick, pass off both hands, tackle and ruck, which is what every player shud do with ease.

  3. scrum-half with that size, but that position takes a good understanding of the game, and so if your not that experienced with Rugby, that wouldn't be a good idea.

if your quick enough, maybe Fullback or Wing

i'd try and put on some weight though, build up your muscles and strength, it will benefit you no matter what postion you end up in, because when i was 16 i was 5'11" and nearly 13 stone, but i have been playing alot of my life, so, bulking up will be a good idea

most likely, when you to practice with the team for the first time the coach will get a good idea of your abilities and where you could fit in

Edit: to the poster below ... i personally don't think 5'10" is too big for a scrum half, it's just about right. alot of Scrum-halfs are pushing onto 6'0". Look at Ruan Penaar he is 6'1" and a Scrum Half. another one i can think of,Ben Foden, 6'1" and a scrum half. I played as a scrum half until the end of last season for my club and i'm 6'2" :-)

  4. Generally, you should be playing in the back. An inside center sounds best for you, but a winger, full back, or even half back could work to your advantage.

    good luck!

  5. 10 Stone, 5'10 at 16yrs Then your a Inside or outside Centre if you wont to get roughed up.  Anywhere really apart from tight five you could try with those measurements.  The beauty about your age is that you can experiment and see which really best suits your taste.  But personally inside centre would be a good start and you get to see alot of action.

  6. haha 5'10 is too large for scrumhalf... but if your good size doesnt matter

but yeah for any position size doesnt reflect what you should play, of course you see the bigger players as props etc. but its all about skill, if your fast, and since you seem lighter the backline might suite you, but you can be smaller and be a flank but you have to be agressive

im a utility player but it took me 3 years to realize that my primary position is flanker

its all about skill, so get playing and youll figure it out!

  7. It totally depends on what you can do well.If you're good at telling people what to do and can give a really accurate pass then scrumhalf. If you're a good tackler, try inside centre. If your a good catcher and kicker try fullback.Maybe you should try winger as you are a fast runner. From what I know, stay away from 2nd row or props

  8. Well, it all depends on your basics, for easy games try to go for outside center or second center howerver you want to call it. Im afraid that full back is too much pressure for you and you'll learn nothing as a winger unless you are a natural. So practice your basics and when you are ready choose if you want to stay at current or get something new.

I started as a winger but it got me nowhere so then i tried center and got a better understanding of the game now i play flanker/number 8 and can play lock or center. So be sure to enrich your basics and you will have more choise in your future positions.

  9. I suggest in the backs. If you are a good team player and commands your fords well go scrum half. I suggest wing.

  10. If you like getting in the thick of things, you might try hooker.  In the modern game, the hooker is being used much more in the loose.  Being smaller could work to your advantage as larger players will find you harder to tackle, and you can often weave in between to slow forwards to score.  You can't be afraid to tackle the big guys, but you have an advantage when you get low as you will be in a perfect position to wrap the legs.  Even if you don't end up playing there, I'd suggest trying it as it will at least give you new respect for the forward aspect of the game.  If you are unsure of what position you want to play, what better way to make that choice than to actually try out a bunch of different positions.  You might think you're destined for short guy positions, and then shoot up to 6'4" when you're 18 (I've seen it happen many times).
