  1. Nowadays, the most common type of background check is a Credit Check.  If you can't pay your bills, chances are that you can't pay your rent.

Even most insurance companies are running credit checks because of two reasons:

1 - If you can't pay you other bills, you probably won't pay your insurance either.

2 - People with financial troubles are more likely to file fraudulent claims.

The lower your credit score, the higher the risk.  The better your credit score, the better insurance rates you'll get.

  2. normally they check only your credit history!you will know when you talk to them!cause you have to agree that they are able to check up on you and on what they can check!

  3. criminal and financial, if you just got arrested last week you probably havent been to court yet, so the felony may not be on your record yet.

  4. usually the background check will involve credit history to see if you are likely to miss a payment or to not pay on a regular basis.  Some may do a criminal background check to be sure your not a whack job who is going to hurt fellow tennants.

  5. They ask about arrests...give them a good answer and you'll be OK. It is harder to get an apartment than a handgun license in some places.. I bought a camp trailer...I hate apts..you even have a truck to pull it !
