What type of bag would be the best for hauling books around in college?

I was thinking about a messenger bag, but I'm not sure! Please help!

  1. You don't really haul around books that often (usually you bring a notebook to lecture and leave the books at home), so it doesn't have to be really heavy duty.  Messenger bag is fine, so are regular backpacks; I personally prefer the backpacks since it leaves your hands free, but some days I don't even bring a bag, I just carry my stuff.
